WE ALL WANT THE BEST FOR OUR CHILDREN, RIGHT? OF COURSE WE DO!
Maintaining a healthy functional spine is just as, if not more, important than maintaining proper dental hygiene from
childhood throughout adulthood. Though growing in popularity, the utilization of chiropractic care for children, from
birth to seventeen years of age, is not often enough considered by parents, despite the fact that the health and well
being of hundreds of thousands of infants, children and adolescents have been improved through chiropractic
care. According to a January 19, 2009 article in USA Today, 3%, or about 2.2 million, of American children were
treated with chiropractic or osteopathic manipulation in 2007. This is a rather low number considering all children
can benefit from good spinal health. After reading this page I am sure you will agree.
From the moment of conception, your world revolves around making sure
your child has everything they need to live a long and healthy life.
Chiropractic care offers you and your family a solid foundation for health,
now and into the future.
"When I was a young boy, braces were only for major dental problems. Now
we have children as young as eight years old getting braces in preparation for
their future growth. Chiropractic has made similar advances and as a result,
more parents are recognizing the importance of spinal checkups for their
children, as well as for themselves."
First, let’s talk about the need for chiropractic for the little
guys and gals from newborn through toddler years. Whether
they are in the healthcare profession or not, most people accept
wholeheartedly that the birth process can be a very traumatic
event. Even under the very best of circumstances of a non-
invasive, natural birthing process, the baby’s delicate spine and
nervous system is subject to extreme pressures while passing
through the birth canal. Sometimes complications in the birthing
process arise, placing even more strain on the newborn. Due to
the significant spinal trauma that occurs during birth, many
parents wisely have their newborns evaluated by a chiropractor
right away. The old saying: “As the twig is bent, so grows the
tree”, says it all. We all know how important the formative years
are in determining the health of our children as they grow. It is
for this reason that chiropractic care is particularly vital to your
child ongoing spinal health.
As our delicate newborn embarks on the miraculous process of development; holding up her head, rolling over,
pulling herself up, falling on her bottom, getting back up again and moving around her big, new world; the spine
is again susceptible to stress and strain of an occasional bump along the way. There is no better time to make
sure that our child’s spine is aligned properly. Unlike the baby teeth, which will eventually be replaced with a
brand new adult set, we only have one spine in our life. A child's spine amazingly grows almost fifty percent in
length during his or her first year of growth. Proper development and prevention are the focus of chiropractic care
during this stage of your child’s spinal development. Your child should be evaluated during the first year of life
when corrective and preventative care is most important.
Now, let’s talk about the bigger kids. Active children’s
bodies take a beating with routine play and minor accidents
that we don’t even think to worry about. In a given month or
year, how often has your child jumped from a swing or a
slide, climbed a fence, fallen off a bike, been tackled to the
ground, run into another player, wrestled and rough-housed
with older and bigger kids? Children have traumas from
normal childhood occurrences everyday. What we may not
realize is that they may be suffering from undetected neck or
back injuries. Worse yet, these injuries may not express
themselves with signs and symptoms for years down the
road. Subtle trauma throughout childhood will affect the
future development of the spine leading to impaired nervous
system function. Any interference to the vital nerve system
will adversely affect the body’s ability to function at its best.
Perhaps the best part of chiropractic care for our children is the all natural approach. Today’s moms and dads
are disturbed by the potentially dangerous adverse effects pharmaceutical drugs can have on their children and
value a drugless alternative solution. Parents are increasingly asking, “Is there a safer alternative? Is this
prescription really all I can do for my child?” Many children’s prescription and non-prescription drugs not only
have the potential for serious side effects, but are also often only given to mask a child’s symptoms.
Regular chiropractic checkups can identify potential spinal injury from these traumas, make the correction early in
life and help avoid many of the health complaints seen later as adults. Proper spinal hygiene for our children is
an important key to better health.
We are excited to see that parents are becoming increasingly hesitant to merely mask symptoms with potentially
harmful drugs. The desire to achieve a state of true health for their children has led parents to seek health care
options which support their children’s own natural ability to be healthy. Chiropractic care is one such option. All
children deserve the right to express their fullest potential. Chiropractic care for children is safe, gentle and
effective, thus allowing for the opportunity to achieve maximum potential and well-being.
It is time to get past simple minded pain treatments that most
often include prescription medications along with over the
counter drugs and egotistically advising parents to let their
child cry and to just “wait it out”. This is not just casual-
sounding advice; we recognize the fact that parents can
become extremely frustrated, anxious and sleep-deprived over
their children’s health. For example, we understand the stress
resulting from the combination of the number and agonizingly
long episodes of crying each day due to your baby’s colic
alone. You would be surprised to see what can be
accomplished in many cases with the delivery of a gentle and
Your child's first experience in a chiropractic office will be a pleasant and painless experience. As parents, we
realize that our children are not going to like or enjoy everything that is good for them. Spinach is not enjoyable for
most kids, and naps aren’t much fun either. Chiropractic is different; most parents report that their children enjoy
their chiropractic adjustments and look forward to subsequent visits. They also report that their children
experience a greater level of health while under regular chiropractic care.
Nowadays, parents do not think twice about the importance of regular dental visits for their kids. Check-ups are
scheduled every six months to help prevent cavities. Consider the fact that children use their teeth only when they
eat, yet they use their spine every time they sit, stand, run, crawl, play and move. Your child’s spine should receive
the same attention by getting regular check-ups considering it is one of the most used and important structures in
their body. Our doctors will perform a chiropractic exam of your child to determine if spinal subluxations exist. Our
chiropractic adjusting procedures are modified to fit a child's age, size and weight. The adjustments are also both
gentle and specific to the child’s developing spinal structures. Allow our doctors who are dedicated to serving
children with the utmost of care, to enhance your child’s ability to function in a state of optimal health. Once your
families have experienced the many benefits of chiropractic care, please help us tell others!

A survey study examining the practice characteristics and pediatric care of chiropractors in the Boston area,
estimated that approximately 420,000 pediatric chiropractic visits were made in the Boston metropolitan
area alone during 1998. If extrapolated for the rest of the United States and Canada, the number of
chiropractic visits to children in one year would be enormous. Numbering several million visits. Given this
high utilization rate of pediatric services in the United States and Canada, statistics should indicate a great
number of morbidity and mortality. On the contrary, there exists little evidence of harm to children from
chiropractic adjustments and care.

eliminating or reducing significantly the symptoms of colic and are often just what the doctor ordered.
